With the recent passing of the Fair Work Legislation Amendment (Secure Jobs, Better Pay) Act, over the next 12 months industrial relations in Australia will see the most extensive changes in over a decade.
While many of the changes have come into effect from 7 December 2022, there will be a phased introduction of other changes throughout 2023 that will impact almost every aspect of employment, including prohibiting pay secrecy, the sunsetting of ‘zombie agreements’, and limiting the length of fixed-term contracts.
It is crucial that employers get ahead of these changes and understand how it will impact them. In many cases the Secure Jobs, Better Pay Act could affect rates of pay, hiring practices and industrial bargaining process and strategy as a whole.
