Managing Performance vs Performance Management

Description

Event Details

23 March 2026, 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Managing performance is one of the most challenging aspects of people leadership. When performance conversations are handled poorly, they can quickly escalate into allegations of bullying, discrimination, or unfair treatment. When handled well, they drive accountability, engagement, and culture.

This 90-minute practical training session is designed for managers and HR leaders who are responsible for addressing performance issues and will equip participants with the information and knowledge they need to foster workplace wellbeing and contribute to a cohesive working environment that is free from inappropriate behaviour. The session focuses on the critical distinction between managing performance and formal performance management, and how to navigate this without exposing your business or organisation to unnecessary risk.

Delivered in a non-legalistic, practical format, this training uses real workplace scenarios to help leaders understand what constitutes reasonable management action and how to prevent performance issues from escalating.

What we’ll cover:

  • What is meant by unlawful discrimination, sexual harassment, and bullying
  • Why Respect@Work is important from both a legal and values perspective

  • Preventing and responding to complaints arising from performance issues
