In house Property and Commercial Lawyer – Full Time

Our client is a national retail brand with plans for overseas expansion, looking for a lawyer with leasing and commercial experience. The role will require you to lead negotiations with stakeholders and undertake drafting and provide commercially focused legal advice.

To thrive in this role, you will have experience in retail leasing with at least 1 year of post-admission experience, but also have experience in advertising clearance work and general commercial law. You will be self-motivated and have high level of business acumen. You can expect extensive contact with stakeholders with the autonomy to manage your workflow.

A key to the role will be your ability to adapt to a range of legal work, function within a small team, communicate well and have exceptional organisation skills.

Key responsibilities involve:

  • Drafting, negotiating and reviewing legal documents pertaining to leasing and other legal agreements including agreements with suppliers.
  • Provide practical advice regarding advertisements to ensure compliance with consumer laws.
  • Knowledge and experience of the Retail Leases Act, supporting the business with negotiation of commercial and retail leases and subsequent asset management;
  • Utilising and maintaining the leasing database; and
  • Reporting to senior management on key legal issues.

You will need:

  • An enthusiasm for team work and an ability to assume responsibility and deal efficiently with a varied and often demanding workload
  • Strong drafting and negotiating skills
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Good management skills
  • Strong organisational skills and (in busy times) the ability to ‘juggle’ work.
